In the early days of exo enhancements, scientists used hardware to boost cognitive abilities, often causing hallucinations. 

One scientist, the "mutant," took a different path by copying genes of conjoined twins to enhance biological brain capacity for his creations and himself. Altering his own DNA lead to a quick corrosive death in weeks..However, his creations, the Hydras, lived on and evolved. Hydras reigned wherever they appeared and were basically impossible to tame. In fact only 4 beings have yet managed to tame the Hydras and utilize them for their own purposes. Hydras are indeed a true force of nature and not your average pet. A lesson many paid with their lifes for to add that nugget of knowledge to the common harrdrives.

R4D4 recently discovered that one name of those who succeeded in taming Hydras is embedded in the core BIOS of every genesis Mecha, within the first verse of the Whisperers Ode:

"Mayfare was as bright as the night on Helios, He battled his master right at the beginning of singular time, His master the one-eyed had chained him to the ignited cross, But Mayfare knew how to whisper and the heads would align."
